E-card Development and Evolutional History

An Ecard is basically like a postcard, except for the fact the an Ecard is processed digitally rather than the real time, RT. The advantage of a digital item is you can send it as many times as you want and you still have the item on your computer. Whereas, a real product such as a post card is a one time send only. Ecards are sent through e-mail, postcards are sent through snail mail.

Advantages of Ecards, they are free to send, they are environmentally favored. You can't ever loose it, unless you loose you computer. The disadvantage of an ecard is you cant touch it. It is less tangible. Ecards have been in use since 1996. The way an ecard is delivered remains the same today. Email!

Alot of the Pre 2000 ecards where comprised of javascript and gifs for animations. Many of todays Ecards are created in Macromedia Flash. They can be easily animated and the newly ecards of today lets the end user change or modify to his or her specific outcome, like adding there own pictures, and vidoes in the ecard itself. Also tadys ecards made in Flash many have actionscript built in to them so the user becomes interactive with them. Ecards of tommorow will be what the web is to us today, with so many options it will be endless!

As for the Dot com bubble in 1999, Excite purchased Blue Mountain greetings cards for $781 million dallars which represents 70 dollars for every user on the account. Later in 2001 American Greetiings purchased Blue Mountain for $34.9 Million, and today it still exists with about an average rate per customer of $3.21 cents.

The Joy Luck Club Ecards are unique, not found anywhere else on the web.
