Subject: Letter to Senator Leahy

Hello ASD Members,

If timing is everything, then just maybe our time for some type of justice has arrived.  Today, February 8, 2009, Senator Patrick Leahy proposed a "Truth Commission" for the Justice Department.

The Senator heads the Senate Judiciary Committee and according to the Washington Wire he has proposed establishing an independent commission to investigate several allegations of wrongdoing at the Justice Department during the Bush administration.

As ASD members we know that the once-secret warrantless wire tapping program, the politically motivated firings of some US Attorneys, and the department's highly controversial memos on treatment of detainees are not the only things the Democratic Administration now needs to get to the bottom of what went wrong with the DOJ.

We should each take the time and make the effort to write Senator Leahy on a personal basis and explain to him about the travesty that was committed against the 100,000 plus members of the ASD program by the Department of Justice US Attorneys Mr. Jeffrey Taylor and Mr. William Cowden.  Explain how they used the Justice Department to seize $93 million under forfeiture procedures reserved for drug trafficking crimes.  We each need to explain in our own words how our constitutional rights were trampled on so the DOJ could control the $93 million in bank accounts, deposits, and property.  We each need to explain how thousands of innocent Americans have suffered and continue to suffer because of these incredulous and despicable acts.

You can find Senator Leahy's Contact information here: http://judiciary.senate.gov/contact.cfm

It is best you write a letter and send it via USPS certified return receipt.  It will be the best $5.00 you have spent.  Please don't wait or procrastinate on this.  The timing is right.  Just do it!

Emails and phone calls to the Senator's office are fine but only after you send that first letter certified with a return receipt.

If we don't do this now, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.  You can find supporting documentation on Steve Watt's site here:

Please take the time to email me back and let me know you will do this.  I am counting on you for this support.

Thanking you in advance,
