Any Tan's Best Selling the joy luck club written in 1993, explores
her mother and daughter relationship. Over 30 million copies sold
around the world to date. Amy, born 2 -19 - 52 which by the way makes
her a Pisces, in Oakland california near San Francisco.
.... Any Tans father John Tan was a gifted electrical engineer and
had moved to America in the 1940's to escape the Chinese Civil war
that broke out between the early 40's and 50's. Her mother Daisy Tan,
fled China on the last boat to leave Shanghai before the Communist
took control in china in 1949.
John courted Diasy and they got married. Then tragedy struck the
Tan family. John Tan and the oldest son both died a year apart from
brain cancer, and Daisy fled to Switzerland with her remaining children.
Amy finished highschool in Montreux, Switzerland. at this time Amy
and Daisy where in constant termoil with one another.
Daisy wanted her daughter amy to attend a Pre Med school, but Amy
dified her mother and enrooled in the study of English and linguistics
instead. Also, her mother wanted Amy to court certain men, but of
course Amy will do what she wants.
She married Louis DeMattei an attorney and the settled in San Francisco.
She later started a small business firm with a friend. They wrote
speeches for salesmen and executives. Later Amy became a free lance
writer. One of her contracts was for IBM where she wrote the, "Telecommunications
and You," manual for the thousands of salesmen and corporate executives.
Before writing novels, Amy took up Jazz Piano for a creative outlet.
She started writng short stories for the local writers clubs and magazines
in which she was recognized and thus her story begins. Her first short
story was, "The End game."
